John C. Kluczynski Federal Building Renovation

The John C Kluczynski Federal Building Renovation, completed between 2011-2013, posed many challenges for Project Manager Deborah Burkhart and her team at Cannon Design. Not only did the team need to constantly keep the historical and architectural significance of the Mies van der Rohe building in mind, but they also were required to reuse existing materials and provide energy-efficient solutions within all building systems. Coordination was vital in the planning and execution of the LEED-certified renovation. Says Deborah Burkhart, “This project’s story is one of renovating a mid-century modern gem without impacting its historical significance . . . [and] an innovative reuse of materials.”
